2024 Takeo Yazaki Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Students to Study Abroad in the US - 1st call for applications

The Takeo Yazaki Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Students to Study Abroad in the US was established to support, stimulate, and fund the study abroad and research of doctoral students in the United States with disciplines in the areas of sociology and history. Additionally, this grant will assist with expenses for academic presentations held overseas that are in the same areas of study.

As of today, we are accepting applications to this scholarship for the 2024 annual year. Please see below for details. Note that this grant is only applicable to the areas of sociology and history, but the department the students are enrolled to is not limited to those fields. Recently, as interdisciplinary research is becoming more commonplace, various areas of inquiry fall within the scope of this scholarship. The screening will commence by reviewing applicants' research plans from a broad perspective, so should your doctoral research fall within the areas of sociology and history, please feel free to apply.

Eligibility requirements

You must meet all of the below
You are enrolled in a doctoral course at Keio University
・ You will commence your research within the broad areas of sociology and history
・ You perform with excellence in your field of studies and display high character

Target research activities and the value of stipends

The amount granted will be determined according to your research plan and the duration of your study abroad.

A) Studying Abroad to the US

・The eligibility period is up to one year. You must depart to the states during 2024.

* The 2nd call for applications is scheduled from June 17 (Mon.) to July 26 (Fri.). Details will be announced in early June via the above page.

Screening process

A) Studying abroad in the US

Screening of documents and an interview (planned from late May)
*Details of the interview will be sent to those who passed the screening of documents via email in mid-May.

B) Research Activity / C) Presentation at International Conferences

The results are scheduled to be announced via email in early June.

Others

  • In the application form, please make sure to specify clearly the period you will spend abroad and details about your activities.
  • If you plan to apply for multiple scholarships, you must follow the rules of the other scholarship providers.
  • After finishing your research funded by our scholarship, you must submit a report of your research within one month of completion.
  • Should you be categorized under "Research and investigation activities" or "Presentation at academic conferences," you must submit the hard copy of your receipts along with the report.
  • If the grant fund management committee makes the decision to cancel your scholarship, you may be obliged to return all or part of the stipends you have received until that point.
