Scheme for Smooth Entry of International Students

*The Scheme for Smooth Entry of International Students ended on May 31, 2022. Please make sure to arrange your own tickets after June 1st.

Overview


In order to prioritize the entry of international students into Japan, the Japanese government has initiated the "Scheme for Smooth Entry of International Students".

With the cooperation of airlines, large sections of seating have been reserved for international students whose flight preferences have been consolidated and submitted by their receiving universities.

Flights arriving in Japan from Mondays to Thursdays are the main targets for provision. (Reservations cannot be guaranteed.)


Applications through this scheme may only be made if it is difficult to book a flight on your own.

Terms of Use


-This scheme is only for international students who have the "Student" status of residence. It is not available to researchers and faculty members.
-The flights targeted are generally those arriving in Japan from Mondays through Thursdays.*
-This scheme applies to flights arriving by the end of May. Note that it may be difficult to secure seats under this scheme for flights arriving in Japan on May 3 (Tues.), May 4 (Wed.), and May 5 (Thurs.).
- Connecting flights operated by non-participating airlines are not eligible.
- Please apply for this scheme after your visa is issued.


*This scheme can be also used for the following fights arriving in Japan from Friday to Sunday.

Note


Should you cancel your reservation after payment for the ticket, you may be liable to pay a cancellation fee, depending on the flight reserved. For details, please confirm with the applying travel agency or airline.

Application Process

The application method differs depending on the airline. Please read the application steps of the relevant airline carefully before proceeding.


■Japan Airlines (JAL) Group*
*JAL Group comprises JAL, ZIPAIR Tokyo, Spring Japan
1) First, try making a reservation through the JAL website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent.
2) In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through a travel agent or a contact center in each country (for ZIP and SJO, only through the contact centers). Waiting list reservations cannot be made through the JAL website.

3) Use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date with the details of your standby reservation.
4) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students and will inform you of the results at a later date.

Students can be placed on the reservation waiting lists for multiple flights, but for securing a seat, JAL will respond for only one flight. No choices will be given, so please make sure to pick flights with guaranteed boarding.


■All Nippon Airways(ANA)
1)First, try making reservation through ANA website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent, etc.
2)In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through a domestic or overseas travel agent or the ANA contact center. Waiting list reservations cannot be made through the ANA website.
3) Use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date with the details of your standby reservation.
4) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students and will inform you of the results at a later date.

Students can be placed on the reservation waiting lists for multiple flights, but for securing a seat, ANA will respond for only one flight. No choices will be given, so please make sure to pick flights with guaranteed boarding.

※For those who have not made a standby reservation but still want to use this scheme
1) Contact the university using the Google Form with the details of your desired flight at least 10 business days before your scheduled travel date.
2) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students and will inform you of the results at a later date.
3) If you wish to purchase a ticket under the conditions offered, contact the ANA overseas contact center by the deadline for the issuance of the ticket.
Students can apply for multiple flights, but ANA will respond for only one flight.


■Air China・Shenzhen Airlines
1) First, try making reservation through Air China / Shenzhen Airlines website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent, etc.
2) In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through the call center below and obtain a temporary reservation number (6 alphanumerical digits).

If you wish to purchase a ticket under the conditions offered, please proceed with payment of the ticket. Note that the payment can only be made by credit card.


■China Southern Airlines(CZ)
1) Book your flight at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date through the website below.

2) Make the payment and obtain a 14-digit payment number. (The price and ticket will not be issued at this point.)
3) Use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date with the details of your reservation.
4) The university will apply to the Support Center for Entry of International Students.
5) China Southern Airlines Call Center will contact the student directly regarding the details and results of the ticket arrangement. If you wish to purchase a ticket under the conditions offered, please proceed with payment of the ticket.


■Spring Airlines(9C)
1) First, try making reservation through SPRING AIRLINES website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent, etc.
2) In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through a domestic or overseas travel agent or the call center. Waiting list reservations cannot be made through the Spring Airlines website.

■Xiamen Airlines(MF)
1) First, try making reservation through Xiamen Airlines Chinese official website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent, etc.
2) In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through the call center below and obtain a temporary reservation number (6 alphanumerical digits). Waiting list reservations cannot be made through the Xiamen Airlines website.

3) Use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date with the details of your standby reservation.

4) The university will apply to the Support Center for Entry of International Students.
5) Xiamen Airlines Call Center will contact the student directly regarding the details and results of the ticket arrangement.

Only one standby flight can be booked at the Xiamen Airline Call Center or at the official ticketing center. If the airline cannot secure a seat, they may be able to offer you alternative flights, including up to two additional flights of your choice.


■Nepal Airlines(RA)
1) Students should, as much as possible, make reservations via this scheme.
2) After obtaining your visa, contact the university using the Google Form with your desired flight at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date.
3) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students.
4) Nepal Airlines will temporarily hold the student for flights that can be boarded, and the university will inform the student of the terms conditions, including the airfare.
5) Notify the Nepal Airlines Japan Contact Center by e-mail that you wish to purchase the ticket, then pay the amount to the Nepal Airlines headquarters. The ticket will be issued at the Nepal Airlines Japan Contact Center. (In some cases, it may be issued at the Nepal Airlines headquarters)
6) After payment, students must share the receipt (bank usage statement, etc.) with the university.

2) In the case that all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list via the call center below and obtain a temporary reservation number (6 alphanumerical digits). ・When contacting, be prepared to provide your name (as shown in passport), date of birth, nationality, passport number, and passport expiration date.
3) Use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before your scheduled travel date with the details of your standby reservation.
4) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students.
5) Juneyao Airlines Call Center will contact the student directly regarding the details and results of the ticket arrangement.
6) Tickets will be issued when payment is confirmed. The payment method will be announced by the Juneyao Air Call Center China Headquarters, Japan Branch or a travel agency.

■China Eastern Airlines(MU)

1)First, try making reservation through China Eastern Airlines website or through a domestic or overseas travel agent, etc.
2)In case all desired flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, put your name on the reservation waiting list through the call center below and obtain a temporary reservation number (6 alphanumerical digits).
*Allow enough time to call the call center as it may take some time to get the tentative reservation number.
* When you call, please say "赴日留学机票申请 (Request for Japan Study Abroad Ticket)". The person in charge will respond.

2) In case all preferred flights are already fully booked and a reservation cannot be made, use the Google Form to contact the university at least 7 business days before with the details of your preferred flight information. (Applications after creating a standby reservation can not be accepted.)
3) The university will apply on your behalf to the Support Center for Entry of International Students and will inform you of the results at a later date.
4) If you wish to purchase a ticket under the conditions offered, you must issue the ticket by 6pm two days before the boarding date. Please contact the person in charge of the Japanese language support at the Jeju Air Customer Center by phone. When contacting, be prepared to provide your passport information (name, date of birth, passport number). Note that the payment can only be made by credit card.
