KIP students can take courses from the following course selections.

Courses and WebsitesGeneral InformationNotes

International Center Courses

  • English-taught courses focusing on Japan and East/Southeast Asia

In principle, all International Center Courses are subject to lottery in the following cases:

1) when the number of students exceeds the maximum number strictly determined by the instructor.
2) when the number of students exceeds classroom capacity.

Keio Japanese Courses (KJC)

  • Japanese language courses offered by the Center for Japanese Studies
  • Ranging from elementary to advanced level

KIP students may take up to 4 Japanese language courses per semester.
Students will need to take an "ONLINE Self-assessment test."

Courses offered by Undergraduate Faculties & Graduate Schools

KIP students can take courses offered by undergraduate faculties and graduate schools.
Among these courses, if you wish to take courses offered at Shonan Fujisawa campus (SFC) or courses offered by the Graduate School of Media Design (KMD) or the Graduate School of System Design and Management (SDM), you will need to follow specific instructions. Be sure to check the detailed information provided carefully on the website.

Independent Study

  • Independent Study enables students to conduct research on a topic of their choice under the guidance of a supervisor who is an academic faculty member of Keio University.

KIP students enrolled for TWO semesters are eligible to take this course during their second semester.

Online course registration is not necessary for Independent Study, instead, our office will register the course for you upon student's application.

Please note that the following courses are not open to exchange students.
        • Physical education courses
        • Teacher training courses (教職)
        • Courses in the School of Medicine
        • Courses in the Keio Business School (KBS)
        • Other language courses (*Japanese language courses are excluded.)

⑤ Register for Courses

Refer to KIP Course Registration Manual and complete your course registration during the designated registration period.

If students who failed to cancel courses do not attend classes and/or take the final exams, they will receive "D" as Fail as these courses will remain on your transcript. No change will be made under any circumstance after the course cancellation period. Make sure to check the above Course Registration Periods carefully and make sure to cancel unwanted courses.

The evaluation will be in principle graded from "S" to "D (Fail)", and there are few courses which are evaluated on Pass/Fail basis.

⑥ Access the Keio Learning Management System (K-LMS)

K-LMS ("Canvas LMS") is the system that allows you to access class materials, communicate with instructors, and receive important messages about classes. K-LMS can be accessed through the "K-Support" portal site. After you activate your Keio ID account and complete your course registration, information will appear on K-LMS from the NEXT day.

How to log in K-LMS and basic features of K-LMS: https://www.itc.keio.ac.jp/en/keiojp_edu2.html
How to change language settings: https://www.itc.keio.ac.jp/en/klms_canvas_faculty.html#lang

In case courses are delivered "in-person (face-to-face)", there is a possibility that instructors do not publish any information or materials on K-LMS. Instead, all the necessary information will be provided directly in the classroom.

Academic Misconduct

Students will be strictly penalized for any acts of academic dishonesty on examinations or in their written work. Submitting a written assignment is like an examination or a class test in that it is a way of determining a student's academic ability. As such, any violation of the university's rules for written assignments will result in a failing grade, and may have even further, more serious consequences.
Please make sure to read the following document carefully.
