Keio Study Abroad Fair 2016 Postscript

The Keio Study Abroad Fair 2016 hosted by the Keio International Center was held at the Hiyoshi Communication Lounge located on the first basement floor of the Fourth Building Independence Wing on Hiyoshi Campus from June 6 (Mon.) to June 9 (Thurs.), 2016.

This annual Study Abroad Fair plays an important role in encouraging students to study abroad by providing them with information about the many opportunities available to them. The fair allows students to familiarize themselves with the idea of studying overseas and to start making plans for a study abroad experience early on in their university careers.

Many Keio students came to the Hiyoshi Communication Lounge and visited the booths of participating embassies and outside study abroad agents as well as the Individual Consultation Corner to receive consultation from International Center staff, faculty members, and administrative staff. Representatives from participating booths held seminars on studying abroad in various countries, the Keio University Student Exchange Program, various study abroad programs, language tests (TOEFL, IELTS, and HSK), as well as scholarship and employment. Every year, we invite our partner universities from overseas, and this year HEC Paris and University of California San Diego joined the fair. For those planning to study at HEC Paris and UCSD, it was a precious occasion to obtain information on both universities as well as learn about the education system and study environment in France and in US. At the Conversation Corner, Keio students with study abroad experience gave advice on exchange programs and students listened to them carefully, and there are also students who tried to communicate proactively in English with international students from partner universities currently studying at Keio in order to learn about their countries and culture. Every day the venue was packed with Keio university students, faculty members, and Keio high school students. There were more than 2,000 attendees over the four days making the Keio Study Abroad Fair 2016 a great success.

In conjunction with the fair, the Global Carrier Forum was held at room D101 on June 6th. In the first session, a representative of the human resources department of a global enterprise gave a lecture under the theme "The Current State of Study Abroad and Employment" . The second session, "Career Guidance-Work in International Organizations" was led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This included a lecture by a representative from the Ministry's Recruitment Center for International Organizations on the roadmap to gaining a position in an international organization, and a United Nations staff member gave an extremely interesting lecture on a UNDP program he is currently engaged in. This career guidance session was aimed for students who are interested in working for international organizations. Afterwards, there were many specific questions from the 250 attendees, which showed their keen interest in international organizations.
