University profile Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a forward-looking comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West. Our eight Faculties offer a wide array of excellent undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. CUHK is a bilingual university. English, Cantonese, and Putonghua are used for instruction.There are many courses that use English as a medium of instruction while some courses are given in Cantonese/Putonghua.
Undergraduate programs open to exchange students (a) All regular courses in undergraduate and postgraduate levels are open to IASP students,except:
• Faculty of Medicine courses (except some Public Health courses);
• Faculty of Education courses (except Sports Science and Physical Education (SPED) courses, and those Physical Education (PHED) course with an X after the course number);
•Courses listed at

http://www.oal.cuhk.edu.hk/files/incoming/LAWS_courses_not_open.pdf;
• Student orientated teaching (STOT) courses;
• FINA courses under MSc in Finance Programmes offered by Department of Finance;
• MEDN courses under Biology programme of School of Life Sciences.
• courses under MSc in Advanced Environmental Planning Technologies/MSc in Hospitality and Real Estate Management/MSc in Housing Studies Programme
(b) Undergraduate and postgraduate architectural design studio courses are not open to IASP students except those from the exchange partner schools of the School of Architecture.
(c) LAWS courses offered by the LLB programme at CUHK are not open to IASP study abroad students. They are open to exchange students majoring in Law.
(d) IASP study abroad students who want to take LAWS postgraduate courses MUST be admitted directly by the Faculty of Law. They are only allowed to take LAWS postgraduate courses at CUHK.

Dormitory information Exchange students will live in on-campus housing. CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong with a college system and exchange student will be automatically assigned to rooms in college managed hostels with local roommate (see http://www.oal.cuhk.edu.hk/index.php/study-abroad-a-exchanges-for-visiting-students/term-time-exchangestudy-abroad/study-at-cuhk/campus-life#accommodation for details).
Other information The Yale-in-China Chinese Language Center (CLC) offers Cantonese and Putonghua courses at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. Most undergraduates can take a maximum of 6 units of courses (2 courses) in each semester without paying fees. CLC courses are centralized and recognized by CUHK. Results of CLC courses will also be shown on the student transcripts.

Japanese students who are interested in learning Putonghua can consider joining our International Summer School Chinese Language Programme (ISS-CLP) (website: http://www.osp.cuhk.edu.hk/iss/programme/august-session on an exchange basis.
