University profile Since King Louis the Great founded the first Hungarian University in Pécs in 1367 the city has functioned as an educational center of the country and the region with longer and shorter interruptions. With its 20,000 students and 500 different study programs the University of Pécs (UP), the oldest university in Hungary, is one of the largest institutions of higher education in the country. 
The University of Pécs functions as a knowledge centre for innovation in the South Transdanubian Region. Nearly 2,000 teaching and research staff members participate in research projects at our 10 faculties. The research groups having state-of-the-art technology and high quality scientific knowledge give a clear basis to make the university the leading research institute in Hungary and Central Europe.
The University has conducted degree programs in English for more than 30 years and so has become one of the most internationalized universities in Hungary. We are proud to host over 4,000 international students coming from more than 100 countries of the world.
Besides being the oldest university in the country, the University of Pécs has earned a prominent position in terms of international excellence as well. The entire institution, as well as many of our faculties and study programs took leading positions in highly recognized international rankings.

Scholarship information The Hirai Foundation scholarship: JPY 1,000,000 will be available for one exchange student from Keio.
A grantee will be selected during the internal selection for the student exchange program.
A student selected as a grantee cannot apply for or receive other scholarships.
