University profile The "L'Orientale" University of Naples is the oldest school of Sinology and Oriental Studies in Europe and has a strong tradition of language, cultural and social studies, both ancient and modern, relating to Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Since its very beginning, (in 1732) the "Orientale" has set itself up as a centre for learning and research which aims to focus on similarities and differences between various cultures.

Minimum language proficiency  (UG) Sufficient command of Italian to be able to follow lectures without difficulty.
All students are required to take a Italian language placement test at the beginning of each semester for Italian Language and Culture Course at CILA. The course provides each semester 60 hours classes, 20 hours self-study at Centro Self-Access, Tandem Programme with Italian students of Orientale. Students with advanced Italian Language proficiency may take courses in Italian offered by the Undergraduate Courses of various Faculties of Orientale.
